More and more people are picking up fishing kayaks, for numerous different reasons. Some of these people are buying them because of the economy, wanting to get on the water, and not being able to afford a full sized boat. Others, already own the boat, and are tired of the gas bills, or loading, unloading, and cleaning the boat. Then there is another group of anglers who quickly realized how stealthy and silent these boats can be!
So you’ve heard and read about fishing kayaks and now you want to find the best one to buy. But here is the honest truth, the best one is whatever boat is the one that fits your budget, is the easiest for you to use and is the most comfortable for you to use, after all your going to be sitting in it for hours fishing and don’t want to be distracted by a painful seat or some such thing.
Sit on top kayaks are a great option because they are self draining, easier to get into if you shuld capsize and they will hold a lot of gear.
Sit in kayaks are generally warmer, but are a little harder to hold and access a lot of gear.
Both let you attach gear to the deck with rigging. Sit in kayaks actually have more deck space.
Another possibility you might want to consider is an inflatable kayak. I know you’re thinking who wants to be in an inflatable with fishing hooks all over the place. Trust me, the materials these kayaks are made from could handle most fishing hooks you’d be using on a pole. Inflatables are very convenient. You can take them on trips on planes and trains, You could throw one int he trunk of your car for that spontaneous fishing trip you take instead of going into work on a Monday morning.
Finding a good used kayak either sit on top or sit in, is a great idea when you are just staring out. You certainly don’t want to spend a bunch of money on something that may not work for you. If you buy used, obviously be sure that you trust the seller to take it back if it doesn’t work for you.
In upcoming posts we will get into the kind of gear you would want for you new fishing kayak so stay tuned!

Very Interesting Post, I kinda like that inflatable kayak, I like the idea of being able to carry it around and use it whenever I want. Thanks.
There are many reasons to go with an inflatable kayak instead of purchasing a more traditional, rigid kayak:
• If you want to travel to other parts of the country or world to kayak, an inflatable kayak can easily be packed and either shipped to your destination or stowed as carry-on luggage.
• If you live in an apartment or condominium (or anywhere storage space is at a premium), you can easily stow your kayak in a closet or under your bed.
• You can haul an inflatable kayak in the trunk of your car; no overhead racks needed.
• You can hike anywhere and bring your kayak along in your backpack.
